Dr Sallie McFague - Lecture Series - Christ Church Cathedral

Dr. Sallie McFague, theologian, discusses the Dr. Sallie McFagueChristian  understanding of the climate crisis facing our urban, industrialized "second nature."  She argues that a new metaphor is required to understand what is happening to the world God loves.  Our "machine" metaphors have stressed unlimited satisfaction of our "wants" at the expense of nature and the poor. The ancient "body" metaphors of Christianity point to a more organic relationship to the natural world and the theological term "kenosis" speaks of an emptying our consumer demands to allow the "others" in the natural world to have space for "abundant life."

The lecture series attracted many who are rethinking their relationship to our industrialized, urban culture and the demands of relentless consumerism.  Climate change requires a community response to a range of issues and a deeper appreciation of our place in creation.
