Dianne Des Rosiers
Our household is making this pledge because:
Think Cosmic, Act Local.
I am mindful of 2 quotes.
"When a butterfly flaps its wings in Mexico, does it cause a hurricane in Texas?". In a radically interconnected universe, the power of subtle influence, the smallest difference, can lead to enormous change....to exponential change beyond anything we can imagine." (p 262 Bruce Sanguin, Darwin, Divinity & the Dance of the Cosmos)
..."By living within the world as if it were the body of God" (p113 Sallie McFague, A New Climate for Theology)

Here is a different example of a change I am willing to make:
| Some fave "butterfly wing influences". "Buycotting" fairly traded shade coffee; cafe estima @ Starbucks, ethical beans at the HUB or cafe justicia at the Rhizome cafe; patio gardening trying to grow lettuce & carrots as well as flowers; impatience, narcissius, hyacinths, crocusses, miniature iris, sweet peas & a weeping willow. I am eating at home more & am trying to brown bag more. I purchase organic fruit & veggies, etc online (locally grown as much as possible)from Green Earth Organics or spud.ca I am reading Tree, a book written by Suzuki & illustrated by Robert Bateman I won at an Elder's Forum. Some challenges. I experimented with apartment worm composting for 18 months. The inconvenience of disposing the accumulated compost is a challenge. Also the building manager has anxieties compost attracts "varmits" I tried composting inside...but the fruit flies, etc discouraged me. I think I am just about ready "to liberate" my little red wrigglers into the wide outdoors on an exploratory hike into a more accepting environment. |
