Dianne Des Rosiers

Our household is making this pledge because:

"Think Cosmic, Act Local". I am mindful of this quote in "Darwin, Divinity & the Dance of the Cosmos".

"When a butterfly flaps its wings in Mexico, does it cause a hurricane in Texas?". In a radically interconnected universe, the power of subtle influence, the smallest difference, can lead to enormous change....to exponential change beyond anything we can imagine." p 262

..."By living within the world as if it were the body of God" (p113 Sallie McFague, A New Climate for Theology) I am living out an increasing awareness, appreciation & understanding that God is for the body & the earth...& beyond.  That as my body is the temple of the indwelling Holy Spirit in the household of God, so also is my neighbor's body.  The earth is God's dwelling place or home.  I am God's.  The earth is God's.  The universe is God's beyond human thoughts, emotions or actions...a perfect synchronicity of the transendant & immanent, the microcosm within the macrocosm & the macrocosm within the microcosm........  1 Corinthian's 19-20

Here is a different example of a change I am willing to make:
Some additional small "butterfly wing changes" are: fitting a Britta water purifier on my water tap & drinking tapped water; using cloth bags & a carry on tote on wheels when shopping; using public transit for all of my transportation needs; lowering the temperature in my apartment at night & when no one is at home; reducing paper waste at work by printing on both sides of the paper; recycling paper, cardboard & beverage containers @ my local Encorp "Return-it" recycle depot; "buycotting" fairly traded shade coffee (cafe estima) @ my local Starbucks facilitating the survival of songbirds migrating to Stanley Park & reading Sally McFague's A New Climate For Theology, God the World & Global Warming & other books noted in her bibliography & footnotes. I am considering doing laundry with cold water & changing to a water efficient shower head. I am experimenting with apartment worm composting & am eating at home more & am brown bagging. I purchase a bin of organic fruit & veggies once a week (locally grown as much as possible)from Green Earth Organics. Sept 19th....was my first compost harvest....Those little red wrigglers are amazing little garburetors. November 12th. Another compost harvest. That makes 2. I am storing the composter under my kitchen sink through the winter. I am reading Tree a book written by Suzuki & illustrated by Robert Bateman I won at an Elder's Forum:))
